Nollywood Exhibition curated by Lagos Photo at Arles Photo Festival

LagosPhoto was invited to curate an exhibition in the world’s oldest and most prestigious festival of photography in Arles, France -Les Recontres De La Photographie. The exhibition curated by Nigerian born Azu Nwagbogu will feature 12 African artists from 7 countries who explore drama and fantasy in Nollywood movies and their influence on cultural and visual storytelling in Africa. The success of this industry illustrates that there is not only a demand, but also an affinity and perhaps even a contribution to the globalization of aesthetics, particularly those of West Africa. Les Recontres De La Photographie is the premier photography festival in the world held in the south of France, which hosts some of the most influential personaloties in the art world including reputable curators, talented artists and international media outlets. The festival welcomed over 200,000 patrons in it’s 2015 edition and opened to the public on July 4, 2016.
