YECA/iREP Film Screening Of The Supreme Price

Sat 1st Nov, 2014

Freedom Park (Old Prison Ground Broad Street, Lagos Island)

This year inaugurates the first session of YECA (Youth Empowerment through Contemporary Art), a programme sponsored in partnership with the Ford Foundation that targets youth in public schools in Lagos with courses in photography and visual arts. LagosPhoto partners with iRep, the international documentary film festival in Lagos, to screen the film The Supreme Price to sixty students in the YECA programme at Freedom Park.

The Supreme Price is a feature length documentary film that traces the evolution of the Pro-Democracy Movement in Nigeria and efforts to increase the participation of women in leadership roles. Following the annulment of her father's victory in Nigeria's Presidential Election and her mother's assassination by agents of the military dictatorship, Hafsat Abiola faces the challenge of transforming a corrupt culture of governance into a democracy capable of serving Nigeria's most marginalized population: women.
