We come to understand ourselves through our interactions with others. The value of photographing relationships with honesty and depth cannot be underestimated. The skill to do so will set your images apart from the plethora of slick and self-conscious portraiture that saturates our visual landscapes. As participants of this workshop you will go beyond the reductive stereotypes that often represent Lagos and offer alternative insights and images. Through learning to observe, record and reveal the nuances of genuine relationships, you will create intimate and engaging portrayals of the multitude of realities that define this diverse city. Briony Campbell is a documentary photographer from London, UK. She is recognized for her sensitive yet playful imagery and an ability to capture the subtleties of relationships. She is best known for The Dad Project, the story of losing her father to cancer. Briony will encourage workshop participants go beyond their comfort zones, to places which may be intimidating but ultimately enriching. Selected photographers will be invited to do an ‘Instagram takeover’ for The Photographer’s Gallery (London), seen daily by over 12,000 followers.
